5 tips to relieve itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies or hayfever

There is a big difference in relieving itchy eyes caused by dry eyes or itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies.

  1. When it comes to seasonal allergies or hayfever, the easiest thing is to use a calming spray like our Instant Relief Eye Spray - which our customers swear by for itchy eyes (caused by dryness or allergens) - since it protects the eye and provides an extra layer of protection against the pollen or allergen and also calms it.
  2. Apply a cool compress to the eye area such as a cool, wet cloth to closed eyes.
  3. Avoid heat which will exacerbate the itchiness – especially avoid hot showers at the end of the day when the allergies are at their worst.
  4. Take care of your eyelashes – eyelashes are the eyes natural defence against allergens. Try take extra care of your lashes to strengthen them during allergy season. Using a balm-based product like our Soothing Coconut Eye Balm can help fortify lashes and also provides an extra occlusive layer against pollen or allergens.
  5. Oral antihistamines will help with your eyes as much as with the other allergic or hayfever symptoms. However, if you have persistent allergies you could speak to your doctor about a longer-term solution. There are also anecdotal remedies which you try – such as eating locally produced honey or locally produced bee pollen.
