5 Simple Daily Habits to Boost Your Eye Health

Taking care of your eyes doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few simple changes to your daily routine, you can protect your eyes and improve your overall eye health. Here are five easy tips you can start incorporating today:

  1. Keep Your Devices at Arm’s Length

Ideally, your laptop, iPad, and even your phone should be at arm’s length from you. This can be difficult to achieve, but you can try to prevent device 'creep'—when you slowly bring your devices closer and closer. Make a conscious effort to keep your device at least elbow-length away to reduce strain on your eyes.

  1. Incorporate an Antioxidant-Rich Food into Your Diet Daily
More and more research is emerging about the benefits of antioxidants for protecting eye health in the long term. You might already know about common options like berries, but here are some lesser-known foods that are rich in antioxidants:
    • Walnuts (21.9 mmol/100g antioxidant content)
    • Pecans (8.5 mmol/100g antioxidant content)
    • Bilberries (48.3 mmol/100g antioxidant content) – the superstar ingredient in our Soothing Coconut Eye Balm!
    • Mint leaves (116.4 mmol/100g antioxidant content)
    • Espresso coffee (14.2 mmol/100g antioxidant content)
  1. Look Up!

Eye strain is real! Devices tend to keep our gaze focused downward for long periods. To counteract this and reduce eye strain, take breaks by looking up. Move your gaze up to the right and up to the left 5-10 times per break.

  1. Quit the Harsh Products
For the long-term health of the front of your eyes, check the labels of products you use around them. The worst offenders are harsh anti-bacterial wipes, water-based eye cleansers, and eye makeup removers, especially if they contain sodium laureth sulphate or sodium lauryl sulphate. Also, be cautious with preservative-packed contact lens solutions. Look for gentler options to protect your eyes.
  1. Match Screen Brightness to Your Room

A general rule: match the brightness of your screen to the brightness of your environment. This means no late-night scrolling in a dark room! Keeping your screen and room brightness aligned helps reduce eye strain and makes viewing more comfortable.

By incorporating these simple habits into your daily routine, you can keep your eyes healthy and happy in the long run!
